Name: Infinite Coles
Occupation: Vocalist, songwriter
Nationality: American
Current release: Infinite Coles's double single "SweetFaceKillah" / "Dad & I" is out via Don't Sleep. His debut full-length album has been announced for December 5th 2025.
Recommendations for New York City, USA: I would recommend the best party in NYC!!! It’s called Ghetto Gothic created by DJ Venus X. I would also say Vogue Nights at 3Dollar-Bill. And last my favourite vegan spot (I’m not vegan though) - it’s called Wild Ginger and it’s literally the best.
Topic that I am passionate about but rarely get to talk about: I’m very passionate about family especially my niece. I just want to give my family what we never had but always deserved. I want to raise my baby girl to be the best she can be and to always make sure that’s she’s safe and that she know she can always be herself no matter what others may think. That’s what I’m very passionate about. My family

Do you think that some of your earliest musical experiences planted a seed for your interest in writing lyrics or poetry? How and when did you start writing?
I think my early musical experiences just made me want to make music in general. I just wanted to sing.
When it comes to my writing I honesty just found my pocket with this album. Before this album I never knew how to express myself through music or through writing. I would overthink so much and at the end I would just be all over that place.
With this album I learned to just let go. I learned to not worry about if others will understand. I learned that it is not about everyone else, it’s about me and my story. I’m so happy with how much I’ve grown when it comes to my writing.
Entering new worlds and escapism through music and literature have always exerted a very strong pull on me. What do you think you are drawn to most when it comes to writing?
When it comes to my writing I’m definitely drawn to conversation. I try to make it as real as possible. I try to use words that I normally say or sometimes I get inspired by words I hear other people use, especially when it’s slang.
I’m also drawn to the feeling of just escaping because that’s the only way I can get deeper into me. If I don’t escape then it’s like my thoughts stay the same and there’s no new inspiration.
What were some of the artists and albums which inspired you early on purely on the strength of their lyrics? What moves you in the lyrics of other artists?
I can honestly say that Lauryn Hill inspired me the most on the Miseducation album when it comes to lyrics.
What moves me when it comes to other artists is when an artist really tells a story. Lyrics don’t always have to rhyme or be overloaded with words. Some of the best music repeats the same lyrics throughout the whole song, so to me it’s the emotion you put into your truth and in your lyrics.
Have there been song lyrics which actually made you change (aspects of) your life? If so, what do you think, leant them that power?
Honestly I can’t really say that I remember any lyrics that changed my life.
But I can say that Nicki Minaj definitely made me realize how much you can do with lyrics when it comes to metaphors, double entendres, etc. That kinda changed me by making me a better writer.
It is sometimes said that “Music begins where words end.” What do you make of that?
I think this quote is descriptive of how powerful music is. There’s like a gravitational pull in music that can shift energies, feelings, emotions. You can say I love you to someone and yes it’ll feel amazing but if someone sings to you I love you, I bet it’ll feel 10 times better.
I think this quote is saying music can change any vibe any mood any emotion and that’s how powerful it is.
I have always considered many forms of music to be a form of poetry as well. Where do you personally see similarities? What can music express which may be out of reach for poetry?
I think that music and poetry are exactly the same. Music is poetry. They both tap into the same frequency, they both come from emotional expression whether it’s happy or sad, they both can make you cry or laugh etc.
The only difference I would say is that one is sung and the other is said.
The relationship between words and music has always intrigued me. How do you see it? In how far can music take you to places with your writing you would possibly not have visited without it?
Music takes me so far to places I never thought I’d be at. My new song “SweetFaceKillah” is a great example.
That’s my first rap song. I’m used to always giving vocals but always wanted to rap so bad, so when this finally happened I was so excited.
That day in the studio I didn’t even know what to do. I just remember having fun with my friends and fake battle rapping with each other and then boom, what was a rap battle turned into me creating “SweetFaceKillah!”
What are areas/themes/topics that you keep returning to in your lyrics?
I noticed myself continuously using the lyric ‘Dad’.
I think I definitely know, why - but I wanna stop so bad. It’s annoying lol.
On the basis of "SweetFaceKillah", tell me about how the lyrics grew into their final form and what points of consideration were.
For my new single, I knew exactly what I wanted to say. These lyrics came so easy and honestly, I was just having so much fun that everything just felt so natural and came out on its own. It might be the fastest song I’ve ever written.
It’s also my first time rapping and as for my other new song ‘Dad & I’, that’s literally the first time I really poured my heart out, the first time I said exactly what I wanted to say when it comes to certain battles in my life.
Do you tend to start writing with what will be the first line of the finished lyrics? The chorus? At a random point? What are the words that set the process in motion?
When I’m writing music I tend to always start with the chorus.
I think that the chorus will lead me to say what I want to say in the verses. The chorus sets the tone or the foundation for me to finish the story .
I'd love to know how you think the meaning or effect of an individual song is enhanced, clarified or possibly contradicted by the EPs, or albums it is part of. Does the song, for example, need to be consistent with the larger whole?
In my opinion an album is a full body of work, so I do think the meaning behind each song should connect.
Not that everything has to be spot on, but it’s like each song is an episode and the album is the movie in full effect.
When you're writing song lyrics, do you sense or see a connection between your voice and the text? Does it need to feel and sound “good” or “right” to sing certain words? What's your perspective in this regard of singing someone else's songs versus your own?
Yes, I think there is very deep connection between voice and text because they’re both coming from the same place which is emotion.
It should always feel right/good to sing every word you say in my opinion, because one word can take away or add so much more to a song. The slightest change can make a big difference.
I would love to know a little about the feedback you've received from listeners or critics about what they thought some of your songs are about, have there been “misunderstandings” or did you perhaps even gain new “insights?”
I wouldn’t call it a misunderstanding because music will always have different meanings for different people and I really things that’s amazing.
The feedback I’ve been getting has been both positive and negative. I’m grateful, though, because I noticed that the negative part is never about my music it’s only about me and how I live my life.
The positive just feels so beautiful and pushes me to keep going because I know that there’s people out there who will understand me and who can relate.
Creativity can reach many different corners of our lives. Do you feel as though writing song lyrics or poetry is inherently different from something like making a great cup of coffee? What do you express through music that you couldn't or wouldn't in more 'mundane' tasks?
Yes, I feel like it’s very different because lyrics and poetry literally comes from emotion and expressing how you feel. It’s way deeper than a mundane task.
It’s meaningful, it’s real, it’s truth and it’s one language that the whole could understand.
Do you have things that you are super into but rarely get to talk about? Like, you're wondering why no one is interested in this, while you'd be able to give an enthusiastic interview on the topic? I'd love to hear about them.
I don’t think I have anything that I’m super into to be honest.
But I will say I do wonder sometimes why people don’t talk about or make music from the soul anymore. Everything I hear is sexual or about being the most prettiest and money.
It’s so old and tired to me and I just wish for us all as artist to dig deeper and give more meaning.
