What happens when you visit this site
The site runs on a server rented from OVH (data centre in Canada; the European Commission has decided that Canada provides an adequate level of data protection). When you open a page, the server receives and briefly logs technical data that every browser sends: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser type. We use these logs only to run the site, find errors and defend against attacks (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). They are not combined with other data and are deleted automatically by rotation; the server keeps at most about 100 MB of log data per service.
The site itself loads no fonts, scripts or other files from third parties. There are no user accounts for readers, no comments, no newsletter and no contact form.
Cookies and Google Analytics (only with your consent)
The site sets no cookies by itself. When you first visit, a banner asks whether we may count
visits with Google Analytics. Your choice is stored in your browser (local storage, no cookie)
for 12 months. Only if you click Accept does your browser load Google Analytics
from Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics
sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and sends usage data (pages viewed, time,
device and browser information, approximate location) to Google; data may also be processed in
the USA, where Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We use this only to
see which interviews are read. Data is kept for 2 months. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw
it at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; the
_ga cookies are then deleted. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control
signal, Google Analytics is not loaded and the banner is not shown.
Embedded players and posts
Many interviews contain embedded players or posts from YouTube, Bandcamp, Spotify, SoundCloud, Vimeo, Qobuz, Instagram and similar services. When you open such a page, your browser connects directly to that service; it receives at least your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. We have no influence on this processing.
Links
Links to other sites (for example to our Facebook page) only transfer data when you click them.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 15–21 GDPR). You can withdraw a consent at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
