Tell me about some of the albums or artists that you love specifically for their sound, please.

Sure! There are so many!! I'll do my best!!

Nirvana - Bleach -1989

My first and favorite experience with the power of sound from a recording was the discovering of Bleach during my pre-teenage years ... The beginning of “Blew” blew my mind:)

This is more historical for me on my personal love story with sound and music. It was one of the most magical sound experiences I had ever had at that time!

Remember? It was a time while you couldn't have all the music you wanted on a phone ... these did not even exist (how cool was this!??). And so I had it on a CD.

I was listening with headphones and I thought this was the raddest thing that had ever happened to me: listening to this opening, how it blasted my ears!!! Ahaa! They instantly were my friends:)

Swans - The Glowing Man - 2016

This album especially has an amazing sound to me and the band exudes a deep osmosis of playing together. Just like the live concerts of that period, I was lucky enough to attend.

It was such a mystical, raw, physical experience of live sound.

I feel their music touches me also by the physical experience their sound creates.

Amenra

This makes me think of Amenra and their mind blowing live performances, the fantastic dynamics of their sound on stage and its emotional dynamics as well. The sincerity of the vocals, their bareness.

I was mesmerized by their last live show I've been to. It healed something so deeply in me. I guess because of this alloy of power and fragility, brought on stage with so much sincerity.

YOB (of course!)

Their live sound and performance are blending both, I'd say. YOB is Love!!

My favorite album for its sound is Atma.

OvO - Miasma - 2020

On this album, I am amazed particularly by the fantastic vocals and the power of the drum sound. I feel the dynamic of the sound is amazing, too. The mixing and mastering here are incredible as well.

I particularly love the songs “Mary Die” and “Queer Fight.” (I unfortunately never have had the chance to listen to them live, I am very much looking forward to this!)

Deafheaven - Sunbather - the original 2013 and the remastered version 2023

Same as Nirvana:) I love this album because the effect "my mind is blown by the sound" is so present and powerful!!!

Also because this piece of art is simply wonderfully shining!!!

Oathbreaker - Eros | Anteros - 2013

This album is magnificent and I absolutely adore it. I particularly thought of it here because for the amazing textures of the vocals.

Cloud Rat

This makes me think of Cloud Rat - especially on Threshold 2022 - that has also amazing sound textures of vocals! I am totally a fan!!!

Also this album is musically completely crazy beautiful and absolutely balanced! A total pleasure for me!!!

Drei Affen - Seguimos Ciegxs - 2019

For the power of the sound, its explosion of aggressiveness. For the vocal textures movingly translating the sincere and wild despair and rage of this very impressive record.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

In their albums, everything is so well balanced and recorded, the sound of each instrument so natural! I've been a total fan since the first time I listened to their music a very long time ago, now. Listening to their records is always an intense sound experience for me.

Also, their live sound is amazing. Last time that Ilistened to them live, I was right in front of the stage and had their direct sound. It was so perfectly balanced! It was amazing! I was leaning on the stage while listening and suddenly, when the first blow of the kick arrived, the whole stage trembled under the power of the sound.

This concert was a physical sound experience without an extremely high volume. This blew my mind:)

Colin Stetson

The last album sounds fantastic and includes his incredible vocals coming from the inner throat, while playing the saxophone. This is totally impressive to see live.

I took a 6 hour train ride to go to Innsbruck in Austria to listen to his live performance. I'd been hoping to see him live for years.

First I had fallen in love with the sound of the album New History of Warfare Vol. 2: Judges, released in 2011 I think, and his reinterpretation of the song "Lord I Just Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes" by Blind Willie Johnson!!

But lately, in his performance, the live sound coming from his whole system of microphones translating the sound of the saxophone, amplifying the rhythms and the inner throat vocals creates such an amazing sound experience. I am glad to have seen and listen to this performance!!

Anna von Hausswolff - All Thoughts Fly - 2020

I love this record for the fullness and the density of the organs sounds. It's vibration!

It is an absolute sound delight for me I keep coming back to.

Kali Malone

I think also of the powerful wonderful work of Kali Malone. I am so totally into the album entitled Living Torch, released in 2022.

Lori Goldston

The texture of the sound of the cello is so dense it is almost material!!

I'm a big fan of the sound of Lori Goldston. These two albums are favorite of mine at the moment: All Points Leaning In - 2023 and High and Low – 2022

Rachel Grimes - Book of Leaves for Solo Piano 2009

Here for the sound of the piano and how it's melting into the fields recordings. It is just full of poetry and goodness!

I thank life for making me discover such beautiful things for my ears.

Hania Rani

For piano lovers too, with a very different sound, I think of the album On Giacometti 2023! Full of delicacy.

Danielle de Picciotto - The Element of Love - 2021

Speaking of the delicacy of sound, and here, of vocals too like lace, I finish with this amazing album!
